Tomorrow night I will be dedicating my Internet radio show Back By Midnight to highlighting the recent relase of the I Got the Feelin’: James Brown in the 60’s DVD Box Set. The 3‑disc set contains:

Disc 1:

The NIght James Brown Saved Boston, a wonderful documentary about the events surrounding the April 5, 1968 James Brown Boston Garden concert that kept the city from going up in flames. From director David Leaf, who is also reponsible for The U.S. vs. John Lennon and Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin’ About Him?).

Disc 2:

James Brown: Live at the Boston Garden, 1968, the complete concert that was originally broadcast on Boston’s WGBH.

Disc 3:

An episode of Man to Man: James Brown Live at the Apollo Theater 1968 that hasn’t been seen in 40 years. It also contains bonus perfomances from 1967 and 1968 at the L’Olympia in Paris and the “Out of Sight” performance from The T.A.M.I. Show.

Guests will include David Leaf, T.A.M.I. Show diretor Steve Binder, and the Dean of American Rock Criticism Robert Christgau.

The show begins @ 9:00pm ET/8:00pm CT. (The show will be archived on the Back By Midnight page after the broadcast.) I do hope you will check it out.

Here’s a little something to get you in the mood.

Thanks for that Glenn…I didn’t even finish reading your post before I went to amazon and ordered the set. Can’t wait to see some of this footage and I’ve wanted to see the doc on Disc 1 for some time now.
I had just been playing disc 3 from Star Time the other day in the car (my fave disc in that set as it has some of the longer workouts). Don’t think my 8 year old knew what to make of James’ grunts…B-)

  • Glenn Kenny says:

Don’t thank me, Bob, thank my guest poster Aaron…with whose recommendation I heartily concur, by the way.

  • Bob Turnbull says:

Though I didn’t finish reading the post before ordering the DVDs, I probably should’ve read the whole thing before posting a comment…Apologies for missing your byline Aaron – thanks for the info on The Hardest Working Man In Show Business.
