Happy Thanksgiving...

Alice Thanksgiving

…a holiday that, despite whatever the meanies at Big Hollywood would have you believe, is frequently enjoyed by counter-culture/“progressive”/leftie types, as the above screen cap from Arthur Penn’s 1969 Alice’s Restaurant testifies.

It’s been an…interesting year, and it ain’t over yet. For today let me extend my very best wishes to you, my readers, old and new, and to your families. As you may have noticed by this point, this blog is in no way a commercial venture, which to me makes the give and take that much more meaningful. I’m also gratified at the way the regulars stick around regardless of the strange tangents I sometimes go on.

So thanks. I’m consistently grateful for your time, your loyalty, and for your always smart and impassioned and sometimes challenging feedback. Have a great Thanksgiving, wherever you are.

Unrelated to holiday wishes–are you planning on writing a full review of “The Road” now that it’s out? I know you wrote a little thing about it a while ago defending it from Todd McCarthy’s wrath, but having just seen it I’d be curious to hear more of your thoughts.

The “strange tangents” are what make your blog one of the best (if not the best) on the net Glenn. Happy Thanksgiving to you, have a good one.

  • Glenn Kenny says:

EJ, as I wrote in my defense of “The Road,” I saw the picture in January, in a possibly different version than McCarthy. So I won’t feel comfortable weighing in more substantially until I see the theatrical version, and I’m not sure when I’m going to be able to get to that. Apologies in advance!

Now THIS is an underrated movie. And Arlo’s funny as hell in it.
Happy Thanksgiving, you merry old apostate, you.

This is easily one of my favorite blogs, Glenn, and you are easily one of my favorite bloggers, strange tangents, Commie-leanings and all. Happy Thanksgiving!

  • I spend my Thanksgiving day with my gf on her apartment and we were watching classic movies like Godfather through http://downloadmoviesfree.net/ and the good thing is its for FREE. We have a turkey and red wine plus a good movie to watch. What a way of celebrating Thanksgiving Day.
    Happy Thanksgiving day to you!

  • Jovani says:

Oh download_free_movies, you always know what to say.

A Happy Thanksgiving to you, Glenn! And to those in VW mircobuses “with shovels and rakes and implements of destruction”, everywhere!

I rarely comment but appreciate this blog a great deal. So thanks you old leftie hippie q‑tip brandishing progessive elitist. I mean it.

  • Jimmy says:

Aw, come on Glenn, there are lots of very cool, good people at Big Hollywood. I can personally attest to it.
While not quite Arlo, a little ditty from Jackie DeShannon and Burt Bacharach, from me to you:

  • Diane Rainey says:

Hey Glenn..Happy Holidays. I appreciate your writing and insights..I pop onto the blog often. Off topic..any thoughts on the Twilight series?? I have a 13 year old daughter..she and her ilk are obsessed with it. Went to see the original Twilight with her. Not sure if I’m up for New Moon. What is WITH this??

  • Diane Rainey says:

Jimmy, nothing like a little Jackie DeShannon/Burt Bacharach to kick off this festive season! (I’m a closet fan of Bacharach)
