Even as one wishes she had made more films, one can only admire her for all of the reasons she didn’t. And so much else. More at The Auteurs’. The above image is, of course, from Minnelli’s 1943 Cabin in the Sky.

Glenn, please, for your own sanity, don’t click over to Wells’ site today. Just leave it alone. He’s not worth it.
Me, I may just pull out the Lena-guest-starring episode of The Muppet Show tonight in tribute.
Thanks, Mark, but of course you must understand that telling me NOT to look at something is the best way to get me to…look at something.
My sanity intact, I have to say that Wells’ “tribute” to Horne is rather hilarious in its inappropriateness. It has a lot to do with why I treasure the man: Who else would remember this venerated artist and activist with a crotch vote? (Certain feminists may disagree, and would be right to, I agree.)
I also like his invocation of a racist “joke.” It reminds me of the exchange in “The Producers:” “Pardon the pun.” “What pun?”
What a gorgeous screengrab. Classic.
