Dear Mr. Kenny, and I really mean this, I truly hope they’re not dispiriting you.

  • Brian says:

Glenn, let me add my good wishes to bemo’s. This is a wonderful blog, and I hope it continues in whatever form you deem best for you and work and life. And thanks for both the great posts and the honesty and humor in your writing.

  • Urethra Franklin says:

you guys are funny…there’s only one of me. that other guys gone. I’m taking over now…this is MY BLOG. The Urethra Franklin Blog. Got’s a nice ring to it, no?

  • Glenn Kenny says:

Urethra: You’re one of those fellows who doesn’t get tired, is that it?
Brian and Bemo: Thanks, fellas. No, I’m not (too) dispirited. These images weren’t offered in the sense of “goodbye to all that” but rather in the sense of “well, that happened, let’s just move ahead now.” That’s why there’s the jaunty GoPals song at the end.
I’m going to bed, and putting comments moderation back on for the night. See youse in the morning.

  • Jeff McMahon says:

Can one of the resident snobs tell me what image #2 is from?

  • Morpheus says:

    Viridiana,” Buñuel, 1961

This is indeed a wonderful blog; in fact, my favorite. (For what it’s worth–I’m mostly only a lurker… and I do actually think Alien Resurrection is better than Aliens… please be kind). Don’t let them get you down.

  • DBLA says:

I’ve just read some of the back and forth in this comments brouhaha and my main impression is to feel just a little sad for the commenters in question. It’s loneliness and childhood pain rearing it’s head, and pretty transparently so. (Sorry if that adds to the perceived condescension, fellas.)
My advice to Glenn is to keep the comments, reply to those you find interesting or reply-worthy, delete anything you find hateful or needlessly provocative and actively ignore anything you find irrelevant. And try not to take any of it personally, if that’s possible.
And yes, please do keep up the enlightened and sometimes snarky blogging for those of us that are truly interested.

  • Phil says:

I click over to this blog because I like to read about movies. I have only a dim idea of what’s been going on lately, what all the fuss is about (for this I am thankful). I tend to read posts but only skim comments threads, especially when things seem to go, let’s say, off-topic. Whatever has been going on, I trust it’s over. I have full faith that that’s the case and we can get back to business. Now, can one of the resident nice-thoughtful-educated-fellow-cinephiles-who-know-how-to-civilly-intereact-with-folks-even-on-the-internet kindly tell me what Image no. 3 is from?

  • Quantrell Bishop says:

Is #3 not from the ending of Jules & Jim?

  • rotch says:

    Glenn,
This is my favorite blog ever.
When you were let go from première.com I prayed to god that one way or another I could keep reading you, and he gave me Some Came Running. (Thanks god!)
Please don’t let Urethra Franklin get the best of you and brag about it in his forthcoming troll convention. It isn’t worth it.
Thank you very much for the always lovely, smart and insightful writing. If some troll can’t see it, his loss.

  • Chris O. says:

I know you’ve already posted some “let’s move on” images, however I feel this one is still somehow more apt:

  • I asked last night also, but I just looked up JULES AND JIM, and yes, that is definitely its last shot. It obviously was of someone walking away from a funeral, but it didn’t tickle the memory.
Ironically, it might be thematically apropos for Mr. Kenny’s recent angst – two characters are dead, their ashes left behind and now the remaining person is free of the unhealthy spell their triangle had cast. (Hopefully, the VERTIGO still is not apropos since I’m convinced Stewart would have to either kill himself or collapse back into insanity – “I don’t think Mozart’s gonna do it” – if the film were to have continued.)

    Q.: A different Brian
We should extoll it’s virtues; yes, that’s what we should do.

Wasn’t sure where to post this, but there’s an interesting Guardian piece today on Christiane Kubrick:

Charges of exclusivity and condescension. Anger and resentment. Now, despair. Seems to happen over and over again in the blogging world.
