  Hard to believe Scorsese won Best Director for this at Cannes. Not because he did­n’t deserve it, but this is not the type of film you’d expect to play, let alone win a major prize there.
  The pain­ful humor really holds up to repeat view­ings, and I think I’ve watched this more times than any oth­er Scorsese film.

  Not a new idea, but in the age of time-shifting and mul­tiple dis­tri­bu­tion plat­forms, there’s a dif­fer­ent “cur­rent cinema” for all of us. Finally caught up with a couple of films you’ve covered in the past year – UNCLE BOONMEE in theat­ers and CARLOS through Netflix HD stream­ing – and am grate­ful to have inter­est­ing posts to read about them.
