“Well you’re a waste of space/no natural grace/you’re so bloody thin/you don’t even begin/to interest me/not even curiosity/it’s not animosity/you just don’t interest me./Well you’re an energy void/a black hole to avoid/no style, no heart/you don’t even start/to interest me/not even curiosity/it’s not animosity/you just don’t interest me.”—Wire, “Mannequin,” Pink Flag, 1977
“Please/take your knife/out of my/back./And/when you do/please don’t twist it./I felt the stab in my blind side/A poison blade to paralyze/A cosh of cash, a net of drink/to anodize, no longer think/So please/take your knife/out of my/back./And/when you do/please don’t twist it./Fuck off out of my face./You take up too much space./Move, you’re blocking my view./I’ve seen far too much of you./So./Please/take your knife/out of my/back./And/when you do/please don’t twist/it./I won’t hear another word/another sugared lie./I won’t be a part of your/latest alibi./So please/take your knife/out of my/back./And/when you do/please don’t twist it./Fuck off out of my face./You take up too much space./Move, you’re blocking my view/I’ve seen far too much of you./So./Please./Take your knife./Out of my./Back…”—Wire, “Please Take,” Red Barked Tree, 2011
My favorite off the new album is “Bad Worn Thing”!
Wow, that first song brought back alot of memories…Montclair State freshman year…the radio was freely run by the inmates…going into NYC to hear new bands as often as possible…thanks Glenn Kenny!
What I like best about the new one is that musically there are elements every Wire incarnation to date, and it reminds one how fresh each incarnation still sounds.
Glenn, i was just thinking the other day how those two tracks mirror eachother…
I’m very fond of RED BARKED TREE. Its better than the last one, i think. You should check how lovely they play TWO POEPLE IN A ROOM in their recent live shows, its on youtube…
