A joke

Q: What’s the difference between a rock guitarist and a jazz guitarist?

A: A rock guitarist plays three chords in front of thousands of people.

Told by the great Michael Chapman last night, in front of, okay, dozens of people, at Littlefield in Brooklyn.

Here is a clip of Chapman in the ’70s, methinks, playing his composition “Wellington the Skellington.”

He still remains staggeringly great. Miss John Fahey? Miss Davy Graham? Catch this guy if you can on his U.S. tour; dates are here.

His guitar player joke reminds me of another one I heard years ago, asking the distinction between Ginger Baker and a podiatrist, the answer being that a podiatrist bucks up your feet…

I knew nothing before I recently picked up the Light in the Attic re-issue of FULLY QUALIFIED SURVIVOR (and I was really only intrigued cuz of Mick Ronson’s involvement). And damn, it is really terrific. And thanks to your note I may just hit the Philly show tonight

Thanks for this! I’m a huge Fahey/Kottke fan so I’ll add this guy to the heap of under-appreciated musicians I, uh, appreciate.
Given your musical proclivities, I highly recommend you check out the VDSQ acoustic guitar series. The Chris Brokaw stuff is especially stunning.
