Oh man, that’s really sad news. He seemed to be doing better during the last few years.
I’m remembering “Shut Em Down” from 1980.
Really sad especially coming so soon after his album “I’m New Here” proved he wasn’t finished artistically. I also love his contribution on “First in Flight” by Blackalicious.
According to the New Yorker profile of last year (and other reports) he wasn’t doing so well…heavy crack addiction, HIV-positive diagnosis…sad indeed. His stuff was a wonderful combination of warm, funny, outraged and wise.
