I do believe it’s 1955, Mr. Kenny : )
And, also: HOW OBSCENE OF YOU TO POST THIS!
Looking forward to a Kiss Me Deadly – Killer’s Kiss – The Killing triple bill this summer, courtesy of Criterion.
One of the greatest endings in the history of the cinema.
“Hwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa”
Really looking forward to catching this again. I had no idea that ending was coming when I first saw it, and don’t really think I had it in me to process it. Next to Night of the Hunter, probably the most audacious classic noir, at least of the ones I’ve seen.
Even more brutal than I remember it being.
Love this exchange between Hammer, Horace the landlord, and Horace’s wife.
WIFE: Horace, tell him the police already looked through the apartment.
HAMMER (to Horace): Tell her to shut up!
HORACE (to wife): Shut up.
I was sitting in the chambers of the judge for whom I’m working this summer, and I started to hear this noise that sounded just like the weird noise that box makes. The clerks are surprisingly artistically informed for a bunch of Harvard Law grads, but I didn’t want to take the risk of saying, “hey, doesn’t that sound just like the seething sound the box makes in KISS ME DEADLY” and getting a bunch of confused stares.
