The Big Year Film

Two milestones of cinema prominently feature The Trashmen’s immortal “Surfin’ Bird” on their soundtracks: John Waters’ Pink Flamingos and Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket. David Frankel’s The Big Year, starring, as seen above, Owen Wilson, Steve Martin, and Jack Black, is not a cinematic milestone, but it is, as I detail in my review for MSN Movies,  a rather pleasant surprise, and I liked it even better than I might have in the first place because yes, it, too, features “Surfin’ Bird” on its soundtrack.

For my sins I was also compelled to review Joel Schumacher’s Trespass this week. Aiiiee.

Between The Big Year and Freedom, we’re only one fictional birding story away from an idiotic Slate think piece on the subject. I can’t wait.

Back to the Beach, albeit, not the original.

@Joel: There was a 2010 film about a suicidal twitcher called Pelican Blood so I guess it could happen any day.
