I was rather less taken with New Year’s Eve, which might drive an individual to drink. Strong drink. Here is a representative sample of my review for MSN Movies: “[The movie features] a nasty bit in a party scene in which Penny Marshall, the director’s sister, lavishes sarcasm on a waitress who never did her a bit of harm, asking, ‘Are you an actress?’ before putting the attractive young woman in her place. Um, Penny, you’re old-school showbiz, so you know the one about only being as good as the last thing you did, right? Well, the last thing I saw you doing was sitting as far away as possible from Cindy Williams at an autograph table at the Chiller Theater Expo in Secaucus, N.J. So yeah, Penny, laugh it up.”

100,000,000 points for the Jandek reference. You’ve officially made my evening…
Sounds extremely unpromising. And yet oddly I’ve wondered what a sequel to VALENTINE’S DAY would be like if it was made by a much better director. I start off with Jeremy Irons and Genevieve Bujold with James Woods and Debbie Harry on a double date.
And Cronenberg tells Suschitzky to set it up solely as an uninterrrupted master of the four of them talking at a booth in a Tribeca restaurant.
And I’m going to give you another 1,000,000,000 points for referencing the sad clown parade that is the Chiller Theater Expo.
But is it is worse than “200 Cigarettes”?
Before 2pm I had already read (in print, not online) two 1‑star reviews of this.
In other (better?) news, the ‘Margaret’ campaign has resulted in its current UK release being expanded, from a single London cinema to a half dozen.

Was one of them Wesley Morris in the Globe?
Yeah, this looks pretty dire. The next Weekend Update on SNL, Seth Meyers really needs to razz himself for being involved.
No, London’s ‘Metro’ and ‘Evening Standard’, and Peter Bradshaw’s review in ‘The Guardian’ made it three 1’s before 8pm!
This movie probably would have been a lot better if the soundtrack was done by Jandek…
“Core tenant,” that’s rich.
