    I’ve only seen her work with Kurosawa (Mizoguchi and Ozu being on my very long list of film­makers whose work I mean to get into, hav­ing only seen UGETSU for the former and TOKYO STORY for the lat­ter; since I loved both films, I have no excuse for not hav­ing explored them fur­ther), but I still remem­ber her abso­lutely chilling per­form­ance in THRONE OF BLOOD. I don’t rate the film as high as oth­er Kurosawa fans – it feels oddly muted at times – but she was abso­lutely spell­bind­ing through­out. R.I.P.
