  It’s a mar­velous piece of non­sense writ­ten by George Axelrod and dir­ec­ted with his usu­al super-smoothness by Richard Quine (a very ser­i­ously neg­lected talent.)
  If you haven’t seen it before, after doing so get your­self a copy of Chereau’s Queen Margot star­ring a very dif­fer­ent Virna Lisi.

  This is the Jack Lemmon movie that really should be called THE APARTMENT – it’s quite a pad he’s got here! And yes, it’s great fun.

  The Neal Hefti score is pretty nifty too. It adds as much to the film’s appeal as Burt Bacharach’s score for “Casino Royale.”

  Wouldn’t it be neat if Richard Quine and Robert Quine were the same per­son? Then he could’ve dir­ec­ted those movies AND recor­ded VU live ’69 and played with the Voidoids. Perhaps we can peti­tion to seek a Papal dis­pens­a­tion to make it all true.
  Also, I fail to see the rel­ev­ance of this post to Lena Dunham. What am I missing?

  I thought my first com­ment would have made the Lena Dunham par­al­lel obvi­ous to any­one: Both HOW TO MURDER YOUR WIFE and TINY FURNITURE are movies about artists liv­ing in fab­ulous apartments.

  An inter­est­ing site that ranks How To Murder Your Wife as Lemmon’s 14^th best movie out of 50 or so movies. I have not seen the movie but it is on my list of movies to watch.
