Nothing actually new to report here, but it occurs to me that visitors who check in whether or not anything pops up on their RSS feeds or whatnot might grow increasingly put off at being greeted by a naked Serge Marquand. So here’s a visual homage to gluttony—surely an apposite topic for New Year’s contemplation—from Murnau’s The Last Laugh to keep you a bit of company until the Muse touches me again, or I return from vacation, whatever happens first.
For newish bloggy goodness, check out the changes happening over at IFC and GreenCine. David Hudson, the master curator who made GreenCine Daily the one-stop-shopping spot for smart movie writing on the web, has taken his act over to IFC, with its “The Daily” starting today. Meanwhile, over at the GreenCine Daily itself, Mr. Aaron Hillis takes the helm at a slightly reconfigured iteration of the blog, and is already kicking much butt. Aaron and I go way back—it could, indeed, be said that I enlisted him in the film criticism racket, which kind of makes me wonder why he still speaks to me. Although given how cozy he’s gotten with Nathan Lee lately, I fully expect him to stop returning my calls any day now.
I kid, for the usual reason, which you know. And I scrupulously point out that I kid because, actually, Hillis knows at least two or three things about me that he could easily use for blackmail purposes. But finally seriously for real and all, I’m thrilled he got this gig and think he’s gonna do great, innovative things with it. Check it out.
Two or three things? Shee-it, I’ve been shopping around your scandalous memoir since October: “Turn Up Like a Bad Kenny.”

RIP Donald E. Westlake. Just thought I’d share my depression with the rest of you.
@Bill: I’m gonna work up something on Westlake when I get back to my home, and my DVD and book libraries. Very sad news. I’m particularly bummed because, believe it or not, I was going to schedule an interview with the maestro next week.
Oh no. That’s terrible. I would have LOVED to have read that. Anyway, I look forward to reading your remembrance. As much as I love his work, I’m semi-new to it, and have only read a fraction of it, which means my post about his passing was fairly thin.
