  This is an amaz­ing moment in anim­a­tion his­tory, excelled per­haps only by the “Technicolor Ends Here” sign in one of Avery’s oth­er car­toons. This par­tic­u­lar gag was later copied in live action by none oth­er than Richard Lester, in his pre-Beatles music­al IT’S TRAD, DAD!

  Just today I was talk­ing about this char­ac­ter and for the life of me I could­n’t think of his name, or even how to appro­pri­ately describe him. “He was a wolf!” really was­n’t help­ing any­one too ter­ribly much.
  He’s just known as the Big Bad Wolf due to his first appear­ance in Red Hot Riding Hood, yes?
