One of the great "bit" character actors has left us, at…well somewhere in his 90s. His frantic phone exchange with Jerry Lewis, alternating with his attempts to handle a home-invading Robert DeNiro, is one of the most hilarious scenes in Scorsese's 1982 The King of Comedy. Here he's complaining that DeNiro's Rupert Pupkin is giving him a heart attack.
In addition to his many film appearances, I remember his ads in Weekly Variety throughout the 80s and early 90s, usually playing up whatever small role he had in some new/recent release. I’d also see him the streets on NYC’s Chinatown from time to time, but had no idea he had passed until you posted this. Thanks for passing the word along, Glenn.
