My sanity intact, I have to say that Wells’ “tribute” to Horne is rather hilarious in its inappropriateness. It has a lot to do with why I treasure the man: Who else would remember this venerated artist and activist with a crotch vote? (Certain feminists may disagree, and would be right to, I agree.)
I also like his invocation of a racist “joke.” It reminds me of the exchange in “The Producers:” “Pardon the pun.” “What pun?”
