How dare you take the name of Jeepers Creepers, Semi-Star in vain!
I have not seen Un Lac, and I question how motivated I may be to do so. There is something funny in having an interest in, say, the Viennese Actionists, and having such a reaction of non-interest from descriptions and reviews of the latest Grandrieux. This is not to say the works are similar but hopefully the idea makes sense.
I will say the recent Raul Ruiz was quite good and did, to relate tangentially to Grandrieux, work in a 19th century horror story style, though typically concerned with narratives. Quite glad I was given the opportunity to see it as he is unfortunately grossly un-distributed (and it is hard to keep up with 3+ films a year) but still one of my absolute favorites. Sadly, the two screenings have since shown.
I can only second the praise for The Aviators Wife, one of Rohmer’s many masterpieces and truly one of his best films. Having only seen it on video/dvd I quite look forward to finally being able to see it projected. How can one not look fondly, if not lovingly as I may, on a film that sets itself forth from the proverb, “on ne saurait penser à rien”, “it is impossible to think about nothing.” (related to Patrick Bauchau’s character in La collectionneuse and his, not successful, quest to think nothing.)
A final quick retroactive thumbs-up to Jake Perlin’s rare-Godard screening. A really good follow up to his previous Godard curiosities at BAM, from earliest to latest works.

I saw UN LAC at AFI Fest last October. It was the fourth film I had seen that day, and I’d foolishly had a couple of beers between screenings, and within twenty minutes, I was struggling to keep my eyes open. I walked out at about the 45 minute mark. I felt sorry, but only a little sorry, because it seemed like so much artfully shot nonsense. Still. It’s probably the last time I will get a chance to see it on the big screen.

Jeepers creepers series really to much interesting. i am found of that series.
