Looking forward to seeing this again. It’s been in my Netflix Instant queue for a while now.
It’s a marvelous piece of nonsense written by George Axelrod and directed with his usual super-smoothness by Richard Quine (a very seriously neglected talent.)
If you haven’t seen it before, after doing so get yourself a copy of Chereau’s Queen Margot starring a very different Virna Lisi.

This is the Jack Lemmon movie that really should be called THE APARTMENT – it’s quite a pad he’s got here! And yes, it’s great fun.

The Neal Hefti score is pretty nifty too. It adds as much to the film’s appeal as Burt Bacharach’s score for “Casino Royale.”
Wouldn’t it be neat if Richard Quine and Robert Quine were the same person? Then he could’ve directed those movies AND recorded VU live ’69 and played with the Voidoids. Perhaps we can petition to seek a Papal dispensation to make it all true.
Also, I fail to see the relevance of this post to Lena Dunham. What am I missing?
I thought my first comment would have made the Lena Dunham parallel obvious to anyone: Both HOW TO MURDER YOUR WIFE and TINY FURNITURE are movies about artists living in fabulous apartments.

An interesting site that ranks How To Murder Your Wife as Lemmon’s 14th best movie out of 50 or so movies. I have not seen the movie but it is on my list of movies to watch.
