    Best headline ever. Nicely done.

I enjoyed that The Descendants “televisual” debate was called back in, of all places, a Joyful Noise review. Hey, why not? Because that subject was on my mind recently while reading Kael’s review of La Grande Illusion. I found this quote particularly apt, “In cinema there is the artistry that brings the medium alive with self-conscious excitement (Potemkin, Kane) and there is the artistry that makes the medium disappear (Grande Illusion, Shoeshine).” It’s a shame, though not surprising, that visual style which doesn’t call attention to itself is so easily ignored, often by those who consider themselves film savvy.
