I see that many of my fellow critics are taking Disney’s Prom very seriously indeed, examining its entrails for evidence concerning the state of gender roles and stereotyping and that kinda stuff in the zeigeist and all. Gee. I guess I didn’t get the memo that this was a Significant Film, because I mainly goof on the thing in my review of it for MSN Movies; above, its appealing costars Aimee Teegarden and Keanu Depp, Jr., or whoever the hell he is (okay, Thomas McDonnell).
From now on I will refer to this Thomas McDonnell guy as “Keanu Depp Jr.”, with your permission of course.

From the profile, McDonnell also looks like Teagarden’s co-star from “Friday Night Lights”, Taylor Kitsch.
I must be reading the wrong critics – the only review I read that used the movie as an excuse to discuss Big Themes was Andrew O’Hehir at Salon (aside; I didn’t go to any of my proms, high school or college). Who else?
I read “current cinema”. Then I see te photo. Then I reread “current cinema”, indeed. Then I ask myself, ‘that looks like a late 80s movie to me, and that’s Keanu’. Then I read the paragraph.
