Assassin's wound, Kyuketsuki Gokemidoro, Hajime Sato, 1968
Amfortas' wound, Parsifal, Hans-Jurgen Syberberg, 1982
I'm just as perplexed about the whole thing as you must be. But I try to make sense of Kyuketsuki Gokemidoro, also known as Goke: Body Snatcher From Hell, over at The Auteurs' Notebook, for the Tuesday Morning Foreign Region DVD Report. And now, off to breakfast. I have a strange urge for a jelly donut…
How Cronenbergian! There are similarly, um, feminine cuts in Charles Burns’s segment of FEAR(S) OF THE DARK, too.
That Burns segment was, to my mind, far and away the best thing in “Fears.” (Well, the snowbound house sequence was pretty good too.) Kind of makes me wish Burns would do a feature.
I want to see “Fear(s) in the Dark” just for the Burns section. “Black Hole” is certainly something else.
