I’m pretty sure that Belle and Sebastian’s best album is _Dear Catastrophe Waitress_ from 2003. But _The Boy with the Arap Strap_ is also pretty fucking great, so no matter how stupid _500 Days of Summer_ turns out to be, or whatever the presence of this record is meant to do, you can’t fault the choice on aesthetic grounds.

Yes, I noticed the One Line Review of the top 50 films. Andrew O’Hehir at Salon was somewhat struck by the limited number of foreign films. But what I thought was striking was how close the list was to theyshootpictures.com top 1000 movies. Of the top 50, 47 are in TSP.com top 100 or have been in the past. The three exceptions (Pulp Fiction [20], Do the Right Thing [48] and The Good, Bad and The Ugly [49] are either in the next hundred, or in the high 200s. I don’t find Faust’s low position particularly surprising: Five votes mean your movie is in the 400s, and it currently is 387 on TSP.com

But he is instead pontificating on the Woody Allen film, and he is again full of shit—there was “not a peep” about the age-inappropriate Ike-Tracy relationship, says J-Pod; he must have missed the multi-columnist debate over that exact subject in the Village Voice a few weeks into the film’s run. Of course, I imagine that Midge and Norm forbid their child from ever bringing such filth in the house.
